Normal is Boring
This has been my favorite saying recently. The kids have come to expect it. It all started a couple of weeks ago when B asked me if he was normal and I said no. He seemed surprised at my answer and inquired more. I explained to him that 'normal' kids don't have strong faith in God. 'Normal' kids aren't homeschooled. 'Normal' kids look to TV and friends for guidance instead of God and their parents. 'Normal' kids do what others think is cool even if they don't agree. Who wants to be normal?
The other day I pulled into the bank and acidentally pulled up to the ATM when I wanted to go to the window. I had to pull around again. C said, "Mom they're going to think you're weird". I said, "Oh well, who wants to be normal. How boring would that be?" My adorable, confident 8 year old said, "Yeah, I'm not normal. I'm awesome!"
I'm so glad that my kids are really taking this to heart. Normal is boring. My kids aren't normal but they most definitely are awesome!!
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. " - Romans 12:2

Love this!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think home school is out of the norm. So, I try to teach my kids to rejoice in it. A regular saying around here is, Uh...we're home schooled. As though they would know what the heck a person was talking about if they were normal but they are not. We all laugh and then we feel abnormal for a good reason.
