Am I ready?

Did you ever have that feeling that you are missing something?  I usually get it every Thanksgiving.  At about 9am when I am watching the Macy's parade. I get the anxious "you forgot something" feeling in the pit of my stomach.  Then I look over my list for the 20th time that morning to see that everything is OK.  The turkey is cooking.  The stuffing is ready to go in the Nesco.  The potatoes are ready to be mashed. Tables were set the night before.  Everything is on schedule.  Yet, I still get the feeling in the pit of my stomach ... every hour.  I guess that is what is happening with my first year of homeschooling.  I keep getting that feeling.  What if I forgot something??

As the big day gets closer .... 12 days away (but who's counting) ... am I ready?

Thankfully, I have read some great blogs from encouraging homeschool veterans with helpful advice.  I now realize that if when I forget something, there is another day.  If we don't start on the 15th, it's OK.  There will be bad days where I feel like I didn't accomplish anything.  But, there will also be wonderful days.  And hopefully the good days outweigh the bad.

We did not make the decision to homeschool quickly or come to it easily.  It took a lot of discussion with my husband and a lot of prayer.  God changed my heart about homeschooling.  I never would have thought I would be doing this 5 years ago.  But here I am ... and I am so excited to see what God has in store for us this year and throughout our homeschooling journey!!

So, I can't say that I'm not nervous.  But it is a good nervous.  It's an excited, anticipation nervous.  Like the nervous before your wedding, nervous.   Am I ready?  Yes. Absolutely.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
- Matthew 19:26

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  1. I'm finally here!! Yeah!
you've put so much time into planning everything out, which is great, because then there probably won't be as many times that you wish you could have done something with the kids, but you didn't have time to get it together. On the other hand, I totally agree with the support you're getting...that's the beauty of homeschooling..you can adjust as you go along..and pretty quickly to. It's going to be great, i can't wait to hear your adventures:)

  2. I am so glad I subscribed to this site. I read your post and it was like I had gone back in time, eleven years. I started home educating my children 18 mos after swearing I never would do that kind of thing with my kids. You would think I would have known better than to say such a thing! I remember planning my first year and thinking the same things you have written here. Now my oldest is three years into college and I know that I shouldn't have worried. So...have fun...enjoy your year, and your kids.

  4. Last year was our first year and it changed our entire family for the better.

If you fogot something, you will order it. we started with a study of our state, math (we went through THREE programs last year until we found one that we liked) and spelling and phonics. We ditched the spelling & phonics when I realized that my girls didn't need it. We didn't start Story of the World until October-November.

For our family, this first year was all about growth and change. Some of the things I THOUGHT we would do...we never did and other things we changed to fit our needs. It was all AMAZING and brought my family SO much closer.

And I never thought I would homeschool when my girls were younger, either. But it has been the best decision.

  8. You will be so blessed this year! You will have good days, bad days but you will never regret bringing your kids home. I said I'd never homeschool either, but God changed my heart.
